Walnut Wellington Chest of Drawers 1830s William IV Antique Collectors Chest

Walnut Wellington Chest of Drawers 1830s William IV Antique Collectors Chest

A beautiful quality, extremely rare and wonderfully versatile Wellington Chest in lovely antique condition. Dating from around the William IV 1830s period, this gorgeous early example of the Wellington Chest will add stunning colouring, beautiful craftsmanship and refined antique sophistication to any interior.

Made of stunning walnut wood, it shows beautiful grain patterning and rich hues ranging from light-golden to nutty-amber brown. Wonderfully crafted and relatively unembellished (as was the style of these early examples) the unadorned statuesque form with figured top and plinth base allows us to fully appreciate the gorgeous rich tones and wonderful grain patterns of the excellent quality walnut.

It features seven graduated mahogany-lined drawers, each with two original dark wood turned knob handles, which contrast beautifully against the golden tones of the walnut. The locking side bar keeps the drawers securely in place and is also walnut on the inside, showing the high quality and attention to detail of this wonderful Wellington Chest.

Marginally smaller than many later examples, the rare proportions make this a very practical and handsome piece of furniture. Versatile and easily moveable, this stunning Wellington Chest will look sensational and be of great functionality almost anywhere in the home.

All in all this is an extremely attractive and very rare example of an early Wellington Chest, which won’t fail to impress and wouldn’t be out of place in even the grandest of settings.

CONDITION

This in good antique condition. Structurally sound, sturdy and built to last, it has to-be-expected marks and bumps to show its almost 200-year age, including a hard-to-notice missing piece of the right-hand knob on the third drawer from the bottom. The aged wear of this exquisite piece only adds to its genuine antique charm and there are signs of historic touch ups, which are hardly noticeable out of direct sunlight and which blend in with the lovely grain patterning. The original lock and key have been replaced in years past and now work perfectly when the side panel is gently pushed in flush. Overall it's an extremely attractive, highly practical and very rare piece in lovely antique condition and if well looked after it should be just as stunning and even more rare in many generations to come – please see the photos.
