Vintage Turkish Kilim Rug Colourful Large Mid Century 1960s Wool Rug Anatolian
A beautiful multi-coloured vintage Turkish kilim rug in really lovely condition. Likely woven around the middle of the 20th Century, this super Anatolian kilim will add vibrant colouring and beautiful Middle-Eastern decorative charm to any interior.
Dating from the first millennium, Anatolian or Turkish kilims are the best known and most highly regarded kilims in the world. Flat-woven in the traditional kilim style, this wonderful multi-coloured kilim has fabulous geometric patterns with differing hues of pink, orange, green, blue and brown.
The geometric patterns include the abundant running water So Yolu symbol, the Bukagi fetter symbolising the continuity of the family union, the protecting Goz Eye and the Yildiz star symbolising happiness, with the predominant symbol being the recurring Kurt Agzi or Wolf's Mouth, used since antiquity by the semi-nomadic Kilim weaving tribes as a protecting symbol against the attacks of wolves, which threatened their livestock and livelihood.
All in all this is a wonderful and vibrant traditional Turkish kilim abundant with beautiful colouring and patterns.
CONDITION
This is in good-to-very-good condition. It shows very little if any fraying or wear, has only minor and to-be-expected age-associated marks and fading and if well looked after it should last for many more decades if not centuries to come - please see the photos.
