Rare Antique 18th C Indonesian Colonial Solid Teak Rustic Weaving Coffee Table

Rare Antique 18th C Indonesian Colonial Solid Teak Rustic Weaving Coffee Table

A superb rare antique Indonesian solid wood coffee table in very good condition. The smaller of a pair we have in stock, this was made in Indonesia in the 1800s by repurposing already decades if not centuries old solid teak wood from colonial buildings. A really special coffee table with gorgeous colouring, patination, historical significance and design detailing, this knockout item will add authentic antique charm and historical decorative splendour to any interior.

Wonderfully made from beautifully toned solid teak wood using traditional mortise & tenon joinery, this is sturdy and reassuringly heavy. The table top is a repurposed 2-inch thick colonial door and has patches of the original green paintwork showing and the door hinge holes evident on the underside. It was repurposed as a weaving table, most likely in the mid-to-late 1800s.

As well as the hugely impressive former door as the table top it has substantial beautifully carved baluster legs – probably repurposed supports from a colonial building – and wonderful raised table top joints. The weavers used these joints as posts when they would sit around the table to weave and are a wonderfully eye-catching characteristic of these rare antique Indonesian weaving tables.

All in all this is a fantastic and very rare coffee table, dripping with age, character, historical significance and knockout decorative appeal. These can command a lot more money than we’re listing this one for so grab a fabulous antique slice of history and very fine coffee table while you can.

We also have a larger Indonesian coffee table made in the same style and with remnants of the same green paint; they were imported together and complement each other excellently and it would be lovely to see them stay together and go to the same home - please contact us for a combined price.

This is in very good condition. Wonderfully constructed using traditional joinery, it is extremely sturdy and reassuringly heavy, being made from durable teak wood. The only wear is the to-be-expected signs of ageing and patination, which only add to its desirability and splendour, but if well looked after it should be just as gorgeous and sturdy in another 150 years or more – please see the photos.

Table Height – 38cm, Total Height inc raised joints – 42cm, Width – 77cm, Depth – 56cm, Table Top Door Thickness – 4.5cm, Raised Joints Length – 4cm, Weight – 13kg.
