Rare Arne Wahl Iversen for Falster Mobelfabrik 1960s Teak Danish Bureau Desk MCM

Rare Arne Wahl Iversen for Falster Mobelfabrik 1960s Teak Danish Bureau Desk MCM

An exceptional, rare and beautifully crafted Danish bureau desk in wonderful condition. Made by Falster Mobelfabrik in the 1960s, this knockout desk will add exemplary quality, gorgeous colour, multi-purpose practicality and real Mid Century Scandinavian ‘wow’ factor to any setting.

Impressively sized and reassuringly heavy, this fabulous bureau features richly hued and gorgeously grained teak wood, expertly sculpted to reveal elegantly chic and extremely cool Mid Century Scandinavian lines, curves and angles. The curved sides with complimentary juxtaposing angles, the inverted-waterfall drawers and the sunken top are really beautiful and standout design features, which very strongly suggest it was designed by Mid Century design supremo Arne Wahl Iversen, who did design for Falster and designed almost identical bureaus for other Danish makers, except without the lovely robust tapering rounded Falster legs and internal cubbyhole delights of this piece.

A wonderful size for the perfect spacious work-from-home office desk, this bureau has a very large desk area with plenty of storage and, as with all very high-end Danish pieces, the attention to detail is simply wonderful, marrying practicality with elegance.

The quality of the spacious internal desk compartments, with their stunning grain finish, cuboid handles, sloping door and uncluttered simplicity, are a real joy, as are the lovely rounded handles and beautiful dovetail joins on the three large lower drawers. A standout feature, making this bureau extremely rare indeed, is the original vanity mirrored door – a wonderful touch that enables this to be doubled as a dressing table. We’ve only ever seen one other of these Falster models before.

All in all this is an exceptional rare Danish Mid Century bureau by a design giant in wonderful condition – the perfect multi-purpose piece to sit at and admire. A real standout Danish delight!

This is in very-good-to excellent condition. Structurally sound, reassuringly heavy and built to last, it’s all-original and everything works smoothly and as it should, including the original key. The only minor flaws to suggest its not inconsiderable age are a nick to the dropdown front and minor cosmetic wear, including some foxing to the mirror and veneer wear to the back edges which are hard to notice and have been retouched, but overall it’s in wonderful condition and if well looked after it should last for another 60 years at least – please see the photos.
