Pair of Light Oak Refectory Trestle Tables Cotswold School Arts And Crafts Heals

Pair of Light Oak Refectory Trestle Tables Cotswold School Arts And Crafts Heals

A strikingly attractive, outstandingly crafted and extremely rare pair of Arts & Crafts small refectory or trestle tables in lovely vintage/antique condition. Likely made 1910-30 in England by a member of the Cotswold School and very possibly sold by high-end retailer Heals, this magnificent pair will add knockout colouring, exemplary design & craftsmanship and a sumptuous, traditional-yet-decorative look to any interior.

Reassuringly heavy, this wonderful pair are expertly crafted from excellent quality light or golden tiger oak, which shows beautiful grain patterning and inflections and has rich hues ranging from golden to nutty brown. Their handy, large-enough-but-not-huge size makes them extremely versatile; they would be ideal as smaller dining tables, larger side tables or just great-looking bedroom or occasional tables.

These stunning tables feature outstanding tapering trestle legs, which are joined by impressive pegged-tenon jointed stretchers and supported by substantial broad feet – all beautifully crafted and with lovely, chamfered edges. The tables have decent-sized plank tops with gorgeous mitre-jointed decoratively carved bordering, which really sets them apart and suggests their Cotswold School heritage, as the design school was renowned for including wonderfully eye-catching, decorative flourishes to traditionally carved, pieces of outstanding quality, particularly in light oak.

A near-matching pair, they have minor variations – slight tonal differences and hard-to-notice disparities in the chamfering decoration and the border carving. Together they make a knockout pair and we’d love to keep them together, but they could also be sold separately – please contact us for an individual price.

All in all this is a fantastic and jaw-droppingly attractive pair of light oak trestle tables, which won’t fail to impress and will add gorgeous colouring and a wonderfully rustic-yet-decorative Cotswold School Arts & Crafts aesthetic to any setting.

CONDITION

This super pair is in very good vintage condition. Structurally sound, sturdy and reassuringly heavy, as you’d expect from traditionally crafted English oak pieces, they have only minor to-be-expected marks and blemishes to denote their not-inconsiderable age, mainly to their tops, which are hardly noticeable out of direct sunlight in an indoor setting and which, if anything, only adds to their semi-rustic vintage/antique appeal. Overall they’re a stunning and exceedingly charming pair of versatile trestle tables in lovely vintage condition and if well looked after they should be just as breathtaking and usable for generations to come – please see the photos.
