Pair of Antique Italian Carrara Marble Pedestal Columns With Urns
A rare and wonderfully decorative pair of fine antique marble pedestal columns and urns. These superb Italian Carrara marble pedestals and original pots were most likely made in Italy in the late 19th Century and will add classical sophistication and refined grandeur to any interior. It's rare to find such a wonderful pair with their original urns, making this a very special set indeed.
Made in the ancient Tuscan Roman style, these will bring the distant realms of antiquity and sculpture into your home. Beautifully crafted, they are, reassuringly, extremely heavy and feature a beautiful classical aesthetic throughout.
They have octagonal bases with ornately carved fluting, lovely circular flat capitals and exquisitely carved necking. The pedestals are different in height by just over one centimetre and also come with the original and distinctly lipped pots.
All in all this is a wonderful pair of rare, grand and beautifully decorative fine marble pedestals with urns. A wonderful set such as this would normally only be found in the grandest of public buildings or private houses, so grab this magnificent pair while you can.
CONDITION
These are in fair-to-good condition. There are to-be-expected historic signs of chips, scratches and damage with one urn having suffered breaks, which have previously been mended and which, if anything, only add to their ancient-relic look. The pedestals are made in three parts - bottom pedestal, main base & shaft and top capital - which were originally held together with metal ties. The ties between the top capitals and the shafts are no longer in place so could be replaced, and the tie between the bottom pedestal and main base/shaft on one of the columns is slightly loose so could benefit from tightening. Overall they’re a stunning pair with appropriate signs of antiquity and if well looked after they will be just as beautiful and even more appealing in centuries to come – please see the photos.
