Restored Rare Pair of 1600s Carolean Carved Oak Antique Hall Dining Chairs

A fantastic rare pair of delightfully decorative and extremely old Carolean carved chairs in wonderful antique condition. Made in the late 1600s / early 1700s in England, this extremely impressive pair is dripping with history and will enhance any interior with superb antique decorative charm.

Ideal as hall, occasional chairs or even dining chairs, their previous abode was a Derbyshire manor house. They are reassuringly heavy and made of solid oak and have been restored to make them structurally sound, sturdy and eminently usable once again.

Most likely made in the Carolean period, when furniture was changing from simplistic Tudor forms to more ornate styles, these were crafted using wonderful traditional carpentry methods and styles of the time and may have been added to over the years, with the carvings possibly being added a century or two later.

They feature delightfully ornate and wonderfully primitive standout floral carvings to the backs and seat fronts and sides and scalloped carvings to the back borders. They have beautiful cabriole front legs above lovely pad feet, splendidly shapely backs and yoke back splats, superb ancient stretchers and show wonderful rich colouring and age to the oak wood.

All in all this is a wonderful and extremely eye-catching pair of Carolean carved chairs with bundles of centuries-old charm, so grab these rare antique English beauties while you can.

These are in very good antique condition. They have been professionally restored to make them structurally sound and sturdy, with the only wear being minor cosmetic marks and bumps, as you’d expect for a pair of their considerable age, which only adds to their appeal. There are a few historic wormholes to the feet and legs and they have been treated for woodworm for good measure. Overall they’re a fantastic and rare pair of English antique beauties and if well looked after should remain so for many more decades and even centuries to come – please see the photos.
