Loge Lounge Chair & Ottoman by Gerard Van Den Berg for Montis Pierre Frey 1980s
A rare and strikingly attractive Post-Modern designer armchair and footstool in lovely vintage condition. Designed by Dutch supremo Gerard Van Den Berg and made by high-end manufacturer Montis, most likely in the 1980s, this impressive lounge set beautifully mixes wonderful style with superb comfort and will add lovely azure colouring, outstanding quality and a luxurious, sleek and stylish aesthetic to any interior.
Van Den Berg’s gorgeous, much-heralded and timeless design features a melange of curves and angles, epitomised by the armchair’s sublimely sleek, sweeping, curving arms, which when viewed from the sides, are wonderfully reminiscent of the Art Deco style front wheel arches of 1930s luxury motorcars.
Impressively sized, generously padded and ultra-comfortable, the armchair has a high and wonderfully angled back, ideal for relaxing, and the padded top of the ottoman footstool is also angled, guaranteeing the ultimate feet-up rest. The pair was originally was reupholstered in exceptional quality, two-tone blue, velvet-batoned fabric by La Maison Pierre Frey in the early 2000s.
All in all this is an outstandingly attractive lounge set, which won’t fail to impress and will add super comfort, quality, colouring and an impressive, timelessly sleek and stylish look to any setting.
CONDITION
This armchair and ottoman are in good vintage condition. Solid, sturdy, structurally sound and expertly crafted, they were fully reupholstered in the early 2000s is excellent quality Pierre Frey blue velvet fabric. The fabric has some to-be-expected wear and marks, which show up more in the photos but are much less noticeable in person. There are two small, hard-to-notice scratches to the fabric on the upper right shoulder and the fabric has been non-product cleaned. Overall it’s a rare and eye-catching lounge set in lovely vintage condition and if well looked after it should be just as attractive for generations to come – please see the photos.
