Gothic Steeple Back Oak Chair Pugin Style Gothic Revival Carved Oak Hall Chair
A gorgeous and extremely rare Pugin-style gothic oak steeple back chair in wonderful condition. Likely made around the Mid-20th Century, this beautifully crafted and highly decorative chair will make a knockout hall, dining or occasional chair, adding superb quality, lovely colouring and bygone sophistication to any interior.
Expertly crafted from richly-toned solid oak ranging from honey to nutty brown with hints of red, it has beautiful tiger oak grain patterning, is reassuringly heavy and has a wealth of fabulous carved detailing to admire.
Crafted in the Gothic Revival style after Victorian design giant Pugin, this fabulous chair harks back to the medieval Gothic period and features wonderful carvings including a show-stopping and very impressive 'steeple' back with knockout detailing including a triptych of church windows below a beautiful steeple-shaped crest rail.
This gorgeous chair has wonderfully impressive front legs with beautifully decorative turnings flanking standout central octagonal trunks, a decorative wavy recessed front apron below a good-sized bordered seat and has beautifully curving back legs below the angled back.
All in all this is an exceptional and rare steeple back chair, which wouldn't look out of place in a cathedral or the grandest of manor houses and will enhance any setting with its superb carvings, colouring and quality.
CONDITION
This is in very good-to-excellent condition. Structurally sound, wonderfully crafted and built to last of excellent quality and reassuringly heavy solid oak, the only minor flaws are the to-be-expected marks, nicks and blemishes associated with vintage and antique chairs but overall it's a fabulous and very rare chair in wonderful condition and if well looked after it should remain just as appealing for centuries to come - please see the photos.
