Fine Thames Valley Windsor Chair Mahogany 18th Century Country House Armchair

Fine Thames Valley Windsor Chair Mahogany 18th Century Country House Armchair

A fine, fabulous, extremely impressive and very rare antique mahogany Thames Valley fan back Windsor armchair in wonderful condition. Most likely made in the late 18th Century in the Thames Valley region of England where Windsor chairs originated, this stunning example of design history will be a knockout in any interior, adding wonderful bygone splendour and gorgeous colour to any setting.

Impressively sized and extremely comfortable, this stunning Windsor is reassuringly heavy being made of beautifully ruddy-toned mahogany and displays stunning detail throughout.

It features a wavy crest rail above delicately turned back spindles and a central fretwork back splat and has a generously sized and beautifully sculpted single-piece saddle-shaped seat which is stamped to the underside. It has curved arms with lovely scroll-carved handrests set on arched arms supports, features fabulous cabriole front legs and has very intricately turned rear legs with a matching H-stretcher.

All in all this is a fantastic, fabulous and rare example of late 18th craftsmanship at its best, so grab this splendid example of antique finery while you can.

This is in very good condition. Structurally sound and sturdy, it shows to-be-expected minor nicks and signs of wear and has hard-to-notice signs of a good historical repair to the central back bar where the arms meet. Overall it's a stunning chair, extremely rare and in wonderful condition and if well looked after it should be just as majestic in another 200+ years - please see the photos.
