Fine Regency Tatham Window Seat Mahogany 1800s Georgian Bench Country House
A magnificent, fine and very rare Tatham mahogany window seat in wonderful condition. Designed by architect and design giant Charles Heathcote Tatham around the Regency period (1811-20), this wonderful antique window seat or hall bench will add Country House grandeur, sophisticated Regency styling and superb craftsmanship to any interior.
Likely made in the Victorian era in the manner of Tatham's renowned design, which was inspired by a classical Roman seat, this fabulous window seat is crafted of solid and reassuringly heavy mahogany showing wonderful grain and beautiful rich ruddy colouring. A fine and rare example of Tatham's window seat, it displays exemplary quality and craftsmanship throughout.
Elegant yet simple and beautifully detailed, this splendid piece features a large rectangular inlaid top flanked by graceful arching slopes which apex at the top of the stunning legs, which themselves are wonderfully detailed, having concentric carvings to their circular tops, impressive Corinthian tapering legs with fluted carvings and finished with gorgeously defined rounded feet.
All in all this is a magnificent, highly attractive and very rare Tatham window seat, which will add outstanding sophistication, colour and quality to even the most grand of interiors.
CONDITION
This is in very-good-to excellent condition. Wonderfully crafted from excellent quality and reassuringly heavy solid mahogany, it was built to last and is structurally sound. It has been refinished to bring out the beautiful grain patterns and colouring of the wood and the only minor flaws are the to-be-expected minor bumps and nicks associated with a used item of its age. Overall it's a stunning rare piece and if well looked after it should be just as magnificent in many decades if not centuries to come - please see the photos.
