Fine Pair of Vintage Arts & Crafts Tiger Oak Hall Chairs by Rupert Griffiths MCM
A gorgeous and rare pair of expertly handcrafted solid Tiger Oak hall chairs in wonderful condition. Fashioned in the traditional Arts & Crafts style by Derbyshire master craftsman Rupert Griffiths in the Mid Century period, these beautiful chairs are sculpted from the finest oak using centuries old woodworking methods and are sure to add beautiful colour, quality and a wonderful bygone look to any interior.
Rupert Griffiths, inspired by traditional English furniture design and the Arts & Crafts movement, crafted and sold his furniture through top retail stores including Harrods from 1946 until 1968, since when his son Nigel has taken on the mantle of producing fine oak Griffiths furniture from his Derbyshire workshop.
Beautifully designed and individually crafted, these chairs have wonderful rich colouring and rare 'tiger stripe' grain to the fine oak wood. They feature single-piece solid oak tapering back rests with heart shaped handle cut-outs, attractive wavy edges and stunning golden striations to the tiger oak grain.
The chairs have wonderful traditional thick single-piece solid oak saddle seats set on a solid oak frame-work, raised upon square-cut front legs, all with decorative chamfered corners. They have sturdy front stretchers, with eye-catching fluted motif carving to their fronts and visible pegged joints throughout for additional strength and support. They have large central square stretchers running from front to back, which support vase-shaped back legs, again with eye-catching traditional pegged fixings.
All in all this is a stunning and rare pair of expertly crafted chairs epitomizing the best of Arts & Crafts craftsmanship. Versatile and eye-catching, they make a fine pair and will add super colour, quality and beauty to any setting.
CONDITION
These superior quality chairs are in excellent condition. Solid, sturdy and built to last using the best traditional methods and wood, these have been cleaned and re-polished and have only the most minor to-be-expected marks to denote their age - please see the photos.
