Chinese Lacquered Console Table Desk Ming Style Rattan Jumu Elm Hallway Table
A gorgeous vintage lacquered Chinese console table / desk in lovely condition. A modern take on the ancient Chinese Ming style, this was wonderfully crafted and is a fabulous, versatile and superbly sized piece that will look stunning as a console table or occasional desk in almost any interior, adding colour, quality, up-market sophistication and Oriental style to any setting.
Made of beautiful solid Jumu elm wood finished in a clear lacquer to bring out the wonderfully rich ruddy-nutty-brown colouring and lovely dark grain patterns, this beautiful piece was likely made for the Western market around the Mid-20th Century and was sold by a high-end London retailer in the early 1990s.
Made in the Ming style and using traditional master-craftsmanship, this has really lovely mortise and tenon joints on the sides and uses gorgeous mitred joinery to the top, sides and front, creating a sharp, smart, angular look. The top has an inlaid rattan centre and the sides have very attractive recessed centres, the lovely long legs are gently tapered and have traditional Ming horse-shoe feet and the front has two good-sized drawers with smart metal handles.
All in all this is a gorgeous and super-smart piece of high-end Chinese furniture. Wonderfully crafted, it would look sleek, sharp and stunning as a versatile console table or desk pretty much anywhere.
CONDITION
This is in very good condition. Structurally sound and expertly crafted from excellent quality Jumu elm wood, the only minor flaws are some bumps and knocks to the edges, as you'd expect for a piece of its age, which only add to its aged charm, and some light scratching to the lacquered finish on the top, which don't hugely detract from this stunning piece. Overall it’s in really lovely condition and if well looked after it should remain so for generations to come – please see the photos.
