Children's Metamorphic Highchair Buggy Early Learner Vintage Antique MCM 1930s
An exceedingly charming, interesting and rare metamorphic children's highchair-cum-push-along-buggy in wonderful antique condition. Most likely made in England around 1920-1930, this strikingly attractive dual-purpose highchair will add lovely light colouring and a stunning aesthetic of bygone quality and charm to any interior.
Hand crafted from reassuringly heavy, beautifully turned beech wood, this super highchair was in more recent decades professionally reupholstered in a lovely padded, vintage-inspired richly coloured amber leatherette, completed by a smart stud trim.
Still highly usable, it’s a real showstopper as either a highchair or a push-along buggy. Both forms have their own tray-table and an adjustable footrest, while the push-along buggy has the original white rubber wheels as well as a wonderfully charming and original early-learner ceramic abacus to both sides.
All in all this is a gem of a highchair which exudes bygone panache, ingenuity and quality. Still highly usable and collectable, it will add lovely light colouring, super bygone quality and will be a knockout conversation piece wherever it sits.
CONDITION
This super highchair is in very good antique condition. Structurally sound, the upholstery is in excellent condition and the frame has to-be-expected signs of age and wear, which add to its vintage appeal. The transformation from highchair to push-along-buggy is extremely easy, there is an historic repair to the adjustable footrest bracket and the original wheels no longer run as smoothly as they would once have done. Overall it’s a fabulous, rare highchair with outstanding vintage appeal and if well looked after it should be just as stunning for generations to come – please see the photos.
