Carved Windsor Chair Antique Barley Twist Fan Back Armchair Ornate Country House

A gorgeous and very rare carved antique Windsor armchair in wonderful condition. Likely made in England in the early part of the 20th Century, this stunningly impressive oak armchair will add beautiful colouring and an ornate bygone grandeur to any interior. 
 
Impressively sized and reassuringly heavy, the armchair was elaborately carved from wonderful quality oak wood showing lovely grain patterning and rich hues ranging from chocolate brown to golden honey, and was made in the Windsor chair style, with the arms and legs fitting into the seat. 
 
A beautifully crafted and very rare example, it features sumptuous decorative carving throughout. Particularly eye-catching is the carved crest rail above the back and the ‘barley twist’ back supports with matching front stretcher. It has beautifully turned back spindles with complementing arm supports, sturdy turned legs and stretchers and lovely carved detailing to the large seat.  
 
All in all this is a stunning and rare armchair, which will be a knockout in any setting and wouldn’t look out of place in the grandest of rooms. 
 
CONDITION
This is in very good condition. Structurally sound, reassuringly heavy and beautifully crafted, it shows only minor to-be-expected signs of age, which only add to its aged appeal and charm, has had a hard-to-notice repair to one of the back spindles and has the slightest movement to the arm supports, though not enough to need securing. It has a brass pull to the back of the crest rail, presumably for ease when moving due to the weight of the chair. Overall it’s a fabulous rare chair and if well looked after it should be just as breath-taking for many generations to come – please see the photos.
