Belarti Belgian Mid Century Ceramic Tiled Oak Coffee Table 1970s Retro Vintage
A gorgeous and rare Mid Century signed ceramic and oak coffee table with sunburst design in lovely condition. Made by Belarti in the late 1960s/early 1970s in Belgium, this artistic and striking table will add authentic Mid Century styling, super quality and colourful artistic flair to any interior.
Weighing in at a hefty 18kg, this extremely impressive table is one of Belarti's rarer designs. It features a solid oak base, which has a lovely tiger oak grain, undulating sculpted grooves and artisan pegged joinery to the legs. Inset are the original 21 eye-catching iridescent/metallic blue and copper glazed ceramic tiles with a dazzling multi-coloured sunburst design in the centre. Completed by the rare Belarti signature to the corner tile, this is a superb and stylish coffee table.
Highly sought after for their quality and bold designs, Belarti tables are foremost amongst the Mid Century tiled coffee tables. Debate surrounds their origins: some say the signature is by a Belgian artist named Juliette Belarti, others say the name is actually short for 'Belgian Artists' and was created by a ceramicist named Julien de Covemaeker who had a studio in Ostende, Belgium. Either way, these high-end tables stand the test of time due to their outstanding quality, wonderful abstract colourful designs and the much sought after signature.
All in all this is a wonderful, rare and authentic Mid Century table with a stunning ceramic design. Similar ones can be found listed at over £3,000, so grab this beautiful bargain while you can.
CONDITION
This is in very-good-to-excellent condition. Structurally sound, sturdy and reassuringly heavy, the tiles are in excellent condition and the only minor flaws are some to-be-expected bumps to the frame. Overall this is in really lovely condition and if well looked after it should be just as wonderful for decades to come – please see the photos.
