Barye School Antique Romantic Lion & Boar Statue on Marble Base Cast Iron Bronze

Barye School Antique Romantic Lion & Boar Statue on Marble Base Cast Iron Bronze

A stunning, rare and extremely heavy statue of a lion & boar on a stepped marble base in lovely condition. Dating from around 1910, this was made in the manner of the much-heralded 19th Century Romantic French sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye and depicts a hunt scene of male lion over his kill.

The sculpture is made of a cast iron and bronze mix and affixed to a lovely stepped marble base. The size, weight and excellent detail of the casting make it a very impressive object and the black marble base with white streaks add to the bygone quality and splendour. This is a really super and very rare piece, which will impress and add refined antique artistic grandeur to any setting.

This is in good-to-very-good condition. The statue has lovely detailing and only a few lights spots of discolouration (only really noticeable very close-up and with flash photography) to denote its considerable age. The marble base is largely in excellent condition with a few knocks to the marble on the sides and back, which again aren't really noticeable in regular light. Overall it's an extremely impressive piece in good-to-very-good condition - please see the photos.

Height - 25cm, Width - 30cm, Depth - 15cm, Weight - 12kg.
