Antique Spanish Studded Leather Bench Oak Brass Colonial Renaissance Baronial
An exceptional, hugely impressive and extremely rare antique Spanish oak and studded leather bench in good condition. Most likely made around 1890 in Spain, this gorgeous bench is dripping with quality and classical style and will make a remarkable and highly usable statement piece, adding superb craftsmanship, beautiful colouring and mouthwateringly attractive and rare authentic antique baronial styling to any interior.
A good size, well-proportioned and reassuringly heavy, it was expertly crafted from beautiful quality solid tiger oak, is upholstered in the original padded leather to the seat and backrest and is beautifully finished with wonderfully eye-catching embellishments of lion-head finials and patterned brass studding.
Made in the traditional Spanish style, this fabulous bench wouldn't look out of place in the most awe-inspiring of old-world banqueting halls with its wonderfully rustic-yet-grand Colonial/Renaissance Revival/Baronial/Neoclassical styling.
Very comfortable and spacious, this is a genuine antique head-turner. The Spanish craftsmen meticulously executed every aspect of this bench, from the (woodworking geek alert!) superb and intricately-turned lower-frame which includes a rare third pair of central legs for extra support and the outstanding and substantial double-H stretcher to match the wonderfully turned legs, to the impressive arms and hooked handrests, the strikingly patterned brass studding and the imposing aesthetic of the delicately carved lion-head finials. Last but certainly not least is the gorgeous quality and aged appeal of the original padded leather upholstery. Everything about this bench is a joy.
All in all this is an extremely rare and hugely impressive antique bench, which wouldn't look out of place in the grandest of interiors and will be a knockout in any setting with its fabulous and authentic old-world Continental styling.
CONDITION
This is in good-to-very-good condition. Wonderfully constructed by master craftsmen and built to last, it is structurally sound and surprisingly really comfortable. The only flaws are minor to-be-expected marks and knocks to the frame and extensive wear and aged appeal to the fabulously patinated original leather upholstery, which has been treated for good measure. Overall it's a stunning and extremely captivating antique bench and if well looked after it should be just as magnificent in another 130+ years - please see the photos.
