Antique Indian Carved Teak Bench Rajasthan Reclaimed Decorative Salvage Bench
A stunning and extremely impressive solid teak bench from India in lovely antique condition. Made in Rajasthan of wonderfully decorative and colourful antique pieces of architectural salvage from the 19th Century Raj era, this is a sturdy and stunning piece of sculptural furniture. A feast for the eyes, this has history, colour, texture, detail and craftsmanship in bundles and is a great size for an indoor or outdoor (not being overly large or deep) usable and highly decorative piece, which will add gorgeous bygone Indian decorative style and character to any setting.
Where to start when describing the wonderful kaleidoscope of features on this extraordinary bench!... Made of wonderfully ruddy-hued solid teak wood with beautifully aged colourful paint in places and weighing a staggering 40kg, this wonderful sculptural piece has been expertly crafted from high-end parts of Raj-era colonial architecture and furniture. The wonderfully chunky, highly decorative and intricately carved front legs and adjoining apron are likely from former pillars, balusters and architectural coping, as are the ornately curved arms, which you could imagine winding down from a grand old colonial mansion's veranda. The impressive seat is likely made up of a former door, while the back legs with stunning top finials and the adjoining back frame comprise of wonderfully lustered teak wood, most likely salvaged from a glorious old bed's headboard. A top apex has been created with many pieces of colourful and ornately carved coving inserted to give even more texture, colour and variety to this marvellous historic Indian sculptural tapestry.
All in all this is an incredible piece of historic furniture, dripping with colour, texture and wonderful ageing. It won't fail to impress and will add Bohemian style and a colourful, cultural impact to any setting.
CONDITION
This is in very good condition. Structurally sound and made of solid teak wood that has already likely weathered well over 100 years, this has wonderful signs of its graceful ageing throughout and if well looked after it should be around in another century or more - please see the photos.
