18th Century English Antique Lancashire Spindle Back Rush Seat Rocking Chair

18th Century English Antique Lancashire Spindle Back Rush Seat Rocking Chair

A gorgeous and very rare 18th Century English rocking chair in wonderful original condition. Made in Lancashire, most likely in the latter half of the 1700s, this is a stunning quintessential 'Olde English Antique' rocking chair, which will turn heads with its fabulous original features and gorgeous colouring and will add genuine Country House Antique class and style to your home.

Made of ash and elm woods in lovely condition and showing beautiful tone, grain and patination, this is a really wonderful example of bygone craftsmanship with a host of stunning features.

It has the distinctive Lancashire back with 15 exquisitely turned spindles between intersecting bowed rails beneath the beautiful carved top rail; the really lovely and very unusual turned arms, the impressive square rear legs that become rounded back stiles with such lovely finial detailing, and the really excellent rush woven seat.

The detail of the 18th Century double-notching to the turned front stretcher is stunning, between the chunky rounded turned front legs that become arm supports with decorative grooves, while the rounded double side stretchers sit above yet another standout and very rare feature - the stunning and very rare original carved sleigh rocking feet.

All in all, it’s a gorgeous and rare 18th Century rocking chair with so much for fine antiques and furniture lovers to appreciate. Sturdy and comfortable, it's as much a joy to sit in as it is to behold and makes the perfect reading, relaxing or fireside companion.

This is very good condition. Sturdy and structurally sound, it’s in remarkable condition for its very considerable age. What makes this lovely rocker even more special is that all the parts appear to be original, showing the excellent craftsmanship and woods used. With gorgeous grain and lovely natural wear and patination there are the to-be-expected the odd nicks and marks, but overall its in wonderful condition and if well looked after it could well be rocking for another 250+ years - please see the photos.
