18th Century Rustic Decorative Oak & Wrought Iron Equestrian Tack Rack Gun Rack
An exceptional one-off piece of practical decorative wall art for lovers of authentic antiques to adore. Judging by its stunning rustic primitive style and wonderfully weathered condition, we estimate this unique equestrian tack rack to date to the late 1700s, most likely made in England.
Still in lovely condition, it works well as a practical rack and would make a sensational statement piece as a fine art wall hanging, which would work equally well in a rustic setting or as a knockout piece in a contemporary venue. Wherever it finds a home, you're unlikely to ever see another like it again!
Crafted from three pieces of reassuringly sturdy oak and adorned with a wonderfully patinated wrought iron facade of strapping and rivets, it features two rows of hooks (seven in total.) Most likely originally made as gun rack or tack rack, it has more recently been used as the latter for horse tack and equipment. It also makes an outstanding stand-alone piece of decorative antique wall art and has modern mountings on the back to hang from.
Sure to be a fascinating talking point, this is a unique piece for gun aficionados, equestrians, antique lovers or those looking for an original unique example of wall art. It’s a one-off piece of authentic rustic art history that has so much to offer!
CONDITION
This is in lovely condition, especially as it’s well into its third century. The oak construction is structurally sound and covered in decades worth of wax to protect the wood, and the fantastic wrought iron facade shows gorgeous wear and patina. There are a couple of rivets missing and the top right hook is a touch loose, which is easily fixable, but overall it's in wonderful condition and if well looked after should last for centuries more - please see the photos.
